ABOUT

BRIGHTWATER TIMBERWORKS & DESIGN

My Story

Jantzen Wray was immersed in the timber framing industry from an early age. His father, Mark Wray, is a respected designer and builder of timber frame structures, and Jantzen grew up surrounded by the beauty and craftsmanship of timber design. Living in timber structures and witnessing the creative process firsthand made timber framing an integral part of his life and identity.

After graduating high school, Jantzen joined his father’s company, Mill Creek Post & Beam Co., where he began developing hands-on skills in the workshop. There, he learned to cut and assemble timber frame homes and structures, gaining a deep understanding of the craft’s intricacies. His passion for timber framing was temporarily set aside when he attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, but upon completing his studies, he returned to North Carolina and rejoined Mill Creek to continue refining his expertise.

Over the years, Jantzen honed not only his craftsmanship but also his design abilities, mastering the art of creating timber structures and elements that seamlessly blend traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. His dedication to the craft and his ability to innovate within the framework of traditional timber design have made him a trusted expert in the field.

Today, Jantzen channels his experience and vision into Brightwater Timberworks & Design, a company that reflects his lifelong connection to timber framing. He specializes in crafting modern timber structures and elements that enhance contemporary mountain homes, combining artistry, functionality, and the timeless beauty of wood.
